They do a good job of keeping the motor straight on the waterr, too, if you forget to take them off like I did.

HA HA...been there done that !!!
I had some scrap plastic electrical conduit that I "think" was 3/4 diameter. A few minutes with a drimel tool, some sand paper to knock off the sharp edge and I made two sets for $0 That was 5-6 years ago and the clips are still doing fine. I gave my extra set to a friend because I knew it would only take a few minutes to make another set if anything happened to mine.
