I just found out today that I'm supposed to be getting a new 2012 F150 for my work truck. I ducked the last one to keep my 2010 Chevy and I might have to take this one. I work out of my truck, so it spends a lot of time idling on job sites. I'm wondering if the idle time will have any ill effects on the turbos? Depending on the weather and what I'm going on a given day, I might not turn the truck off all day. Usually 10 to 12 hours.
turbos shouldn't be doing much at idle. Turbo timers should be fitted to turbo vehicles, this allows the engine to idle a set period of time before shutting off to allow the turbo to cool before it stops. I guess you'll be your own turbo timer. Why would you leave it idle all day though?
To run the AC or heat depending on the weather. I spend most days setting in the truck doing paperwork or working on the computer. I guess you could call it my office.
Not ideal for a DI motor.
Turbos won't be doing anything at idle. The only time I gave the turbos in my Stealth time to cool down was when I was really driving fast and then stopped somewhere, in normal driving it's really not necessary. Synthetic oil is essential with turbos but I would guess the Ecoboost comes with synthetic from the factory.
Why not a deisel if you sit and idle all day?

I don't get any input on the trucks that they buy. I just drive what they give me. I'm fine with my current truck. We do have some Dodge and Ford one ton diesels that the crews work out of. The maintenance costs are astronomical on those trucks compared to the gas burners that managers drive.
I'm the same way. Doesn't turn off all day. In and out a hundred times. Diesel not practical for me because it's heavier and rougher riding. We stay in the mud. So will it hurt the truck? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif
Yep, it's muddy for me to. I have to use four wheel drive quite often. I've been on a few sites where dozers are stationed at strategic locations to pull trucks in and out.
The new truck will ride quite a bit better than your current ride, depending on the model it will likely have more creature comforts as well. The turbos won't be hurt idling and if they do for some reason crap out the warranty will last a very long time with you just sitting there idling.
The new diesels with all this EPA crap isn't made to idle all day like the old ones. They will have all sorts of issues letting them idle for long periods.
I don't know on the effect on the turbos on an ecoboost but one of the turbo builders posts here often and when he sees this he will give some valuable information. He has shared a bunch of stuff regarding the motor and the turbos in it.
