Anyone here have a blackberry?
My mother just got a new job and has to have a blackberry. Needless to say, she has no clue how to use it and asked me to look at it and explain it to her. I have a smartphone, and after checking out the blackberry I gotta wonder if they're even good for anything anymore. The screen is small, the keys are REALLY small, and each key has something like four functions. What the hell is the point of these phones?

business vs toys...... BB has the business world, and works well for that application.... smartphone is better at playing angry birds.

I have one. My wife has one. My son has one. What's your question or did you just want to vent about the Blackberry that's not yours. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

I make phone calls and texts from mine. I also like to check my emails. Granted, I can't make my blackberry call me Rock God or talk to it for directions or post videos to facebook but I have another thing at home called a computer that seems to work for some of that.

Not 100% true. Yes BB had more business like appeal but I got this Droid and it seemed to merge both wonderfully

http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif Sorry, didn't mean to offend. It's just that it seems really hard to use by comparison. I know smartphones are like toys compared to blackberries, but if something is supposed to be fast shouldn't it be kinda self explanatory? Not that smartphones don't have their mysteries to them but blackberries seem really cryptic. By the way, my mom is a bit, uh, out of the loop, shall we say when it comes to tech stuff. That was really my concern.

I wasn't offended. I was just being a smartass. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
I'm just used to them I guess. I've had one since '04 since the Army started using them so they seem simple to use for me. The other ones seem cryptic to me but like your mom...I'm a little out of the loop with some of this tech stuff.

Why isn't the company proviiding the Crackberry? For most corporations the concern is corporate network secutrity which is one thing the Blackberry is good at. The IT Nazi's, through the Blackberry Enterprise Server, can effectively remote wipe a phone in the event it is lost or stolen.

Last phone I had was a dingleberry, real piece of crap I'll tell you.
Re: Anyone here have a blackberry? (wildturkey)
I had a BB where I used to work. I simply used that as my only phone for everything, business and personal, and it saved me major money, since the company paid for it all. The only drawback was that I had to give up my phone number permanently after I got laid off. Still, unlimited texting and internet was nice to get for free- but it still is a "ball and chain" for when work calls and for checking e-mail while away from a computer. I hope they aren't making her pay for it!
