Question about fishing line
Is anyone else a little overwhelmed by the amount of products available out there? I mean for the most part I understand when to use what line and how it effects the action of baits but whatÂs overwhelming to me is the amount of product out there to choose from. I have small kids and have limited amount of time on the water. My time to experiment is limited.
So my question is how do you guys know Sunline is better than Seaguar or Visious or Bass Pro Shops brand or Cabelas brand or Berkley 100% Flouro? How do you know Daiwa samuri braid is better than Power Pro and so on and so on? I think you get my point.
ItÂs time for me to buy some line and IÂm just confused.
Anyone have any suggestions how to figure it out?
Re: Question about fishing line (mknhols)
trial and error, and a LOT of money. That being said, put a question asking which brand of each type people prefer. Or do a search http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif I think you'll see a majority use seaguar invisx for flouro, pp for braid, and big game for mono....oh that's what i use, lets see where this goes http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif
Re: Question about fishing line (mknhols)
Everybody will have there own opinion on what they like but I have found that there are alout of good ones out there, here are my favorites. I like Trilene BigGame for flipping some cranking applications. I like to use Trilene 100% Flouro for throwing traps and when fishing on Lake Erie. I have used a few brands of braid but like PowerPro. Trilene XT is always been good to me also. Just try some out and you will get confidence in what you are using.

Re: Question about fishing line (mknhols)
Mine has come through trial and error. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif What I've found that works for me:
Worms & jigs-- Seaguar Invisix & Red Label
Spinnerbaits & buzzbaits-- Triliene Big Game
Crankbaits & Topwater-- Triliene XT
Froggin'-- Suffix Braid
Re: Question about fishing line (mknhols)
I'm going to focus my answer only on braid. Spectra and Dyneema are brand names for Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene - UHMWPE. It is a very high strength, low stretch, UV resistant fiber. Basically, the main characteristics of all the brand names are the same. Find the least expensive one and buy it. I get mine from an ebay seller in the Far East. I get 500 meter spools for around $22 delivered. Compare that to 300 yards of Bass Pro Excel braid for $27. I have been using it for the last three years with no problems. My frog rod has the same 60lb I put on three years ago. It's a little faded but still strong and limp.

I use the same three but mainly use mono or braid not to much flouro.
Re: Question about fishing line (Basscatfrank)
The best copolymer I have found for general durability is P-Line CXX. The price is pretty tough to beat too.
Braid I use Suffix, I have never tried anything else.
On flouro I use P-Line Halo, and I put it back on the spool to re use again.
I have dang near tried everything and then I kick myself and put CXX back on. For the trees & rocks here it's hard find a good line that holds up.

Re: Question about fishing line (mknhols)
Not overwhelmed at all. I use Power Pro Braid and either Original Stren or Pline. Pretty simple actually. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Re: Question about fishing line (mknhols)
Alot of trial and error. I also have a lot of friends and family that fish. If one of us tries something new we let the others know the results.
Re: Question about fishing line (UBF1)
The trial and error part I get. That's why I'm posting these questions. I guess I'm just aggravated that I don't have the time to check all or at least some of the options out.
Re: Question about fishing line (mknhols)
Trial and error. Berkley 100% fluorocarbon is less "stretchy" than InvizX. The Sufix 832 Braid is awesome, and I use either clear McCoy's or Berkley Sensation (copoly) for Top Water.

Re: Question about fishing line (rudapa)
Simple...pick one and stick with it. Advertisements, opinions and professional endorsments tend to over complicate everything.
I choose Sufix Siege for just about everything. It works good for me and I know what its characteristics are. Sticking with the same few products eliminates variables and builds confidence.
Re: Question about fishing line (rudapa)
I use power pro on baitcasters, mainly for my c-rig and flipping rods. Mono I use 10-14lb stren original green, does everything I need.
Spinning reels are all fireline, and I use fluoro leaders.

That is me also.... I think the Stren mono is one of the best!
Re: Question about fishing line (packfan)
If you do the trial and error make sure you keep good notes. I went that route a few years ago. I lost my list and had it ruined by a senior moment. I dont have a clue what line is on half my reels.
Personally if its over 10 lb test mono I will buy cheaper line on bulk spools like Stren or Big Game Berkeley. Anything under 10 and Im very specific.
Re: Question about fishing line (billius)
Ive been using the BPS Excel mono and so far so good. I wanna try the XPS Flouro next.

Re: Question about fishing line (paw paw)
i use big game for mono. i use mono for just about everything. on my spinning rods i use power pro in the 10lb range (stores around here don't always have the lower stuff in stock) with a 6lb. berkley 100% floro leader. if i'm throwing a frog or punching/flipping i'll throw 65lb braid. these are what i have always used and have never had any issues with break offs, bad batches of line, poor knot strength, they seem to work as i need them to.
