Sheriff's Department Test
I need some prayers for my upcoming test for the local sheriff's office here in tazewell county.. I'm going to try and pass everything so I can earn myself a spot on the department! Any of you LEO's on here have any tips? I'm so nervous you could mix a can of paint on me from all my shaking! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

Take your time. If you are unsure about a question, skip it and come back to it. When you are done, go back and reread your answers and see if they still make sense. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do fine! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Re: Sheriff's Department Test (LoneFisherman)
good luck to you,, stay calm and if the tests are like any other tests I have taken, do not leave any questions unanswered!!! Take your best shot and DO NOT change the answer. most of the time your first instinct is the right one, http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif
Re: Sheriff's Department Test (LoneFisherman)
If it's just the initial exam for the PD just relax because chances are there will be about 500-2000 people taking that test. When you make it down to the top 10 you can start being nervous.
Good luck with it though.

Joe,
When I took the written test to get into the Fire Department, all of the questions that give you the choice of Strongly Agree or Strongly Disagree...ALWAYS pick one or the other...meaning NEVER go in the middle and pick Sometimes. They want a definite answer, not a wishy-washy one. That's the best I can do to help out. Good luck!!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif

Good luck ! The easiest part is taking the written test, The hard part is waiting to be called.. I took the test when i was 18 an waited 13 months before i heard anything ! You should look into a prep course to teach you how to take the test, there are certain things they like to hear on the psychological part

Re: Sheriff's Department Test (LoneFisherman)
I have to be honest with you- I had to check to be sure there actually was a "Tazewell County" in Illinois. Much less a LEO with a last name of Coffey seems to be a set-up for a joke. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
I never heard the advice to use the "Strongly Agree" and "Strongly Disagree" answer options to answers such as these. That seems to be counter-intuitive and reflexive-not something you would want in someone in this position. Zero tolerance means zero common sense, to me. Having reasoning ability does not mean you are indecisive and weak-I would argue it is quite the opposite.
Re: Sheriff's Department Test (EastTnJoe)
There's books you can buy that are sample questions to help you prepare. Most of it is common sense, basic reading, writing, and math.
No need to be nervous for the written test. As other have said that's the easy part. The interviews and the waiting game is what is the hard part.
It took 18 months after I completed the written test and interviews before I was offered the job.

Every department uses different tests and testing methods.
