Water in Cowl of ETEC 90

This could be serious. I hooked up a garden hose nozzle to the flushing port and turned the water to half. I normally use the muffs but this time decided to go “high tech”. I first noticed a fair amount of water coming out of the prop. I then saw water running out of the cowl at the lower front area. I immediately turned off the water and took off the cowl. The water was about half way to the top of the lower cowl. I about flipped out. How could this be? After about 15 minutes I hooked up the muffs and started the motor with no problem. Is this normal to have water in the cowl using the garden hose nozzle attached to the flushing port? I can see evidence of rust on some of the bolts as if salt water has been getting inside the cowl.

Any help you can give is welcomed.

The strap has come off the flush attatchment. See the dealer or flush it from the pump intake with a flushette. It does'nt take a lot of pressure to flush it on the on board flush, too much pressure makes it come loose. I use 3m 847 when I reassemble mine, then clamp it down. Can you tell me what 3m 847 is?? I've already been through replacing the metal crimp once, and I dont have a lot of confidence it will hold up to repeated flushings with screwing on and off the hose. I may have to go to the earmuffs- I take it this is what you mean by flushette?

Do you think a narrow hose clamp would hold it on better?? My mechanic said it wouldnt fit.
