I have 2007 285 XL. The pro is just a little nicer I hear. Have 150 Yamaha 2 stroke carb. Top speed is 58-60 wot at 5600 rpms. Stable boat in fairly rough water. Handles cornering well. Fairly dry ride. Front deck is a little narrow for all the rods I carry and butt seat. Have not heard of any bad issues regarding the hull, but you should inspect the boat carefully and/or have your mechanic check out the motor. Also, take a good long look at the trailer. I have some rust issues on mine.
Thanks for the response.. Ill definatly get it checked out
I also have an 07 285 XL .. I am running 150 OptiMax on mine so I can't help you with the Honda
engine. I love the boat, but as mentioned above, the trailer is junk! Probably will have to replace
mine very soon.
It won't be a rocket but it will be a fuel sipper. The F-150 Yammies are more designed for a salt water boat.
Hi Guys,
Whilst doing tournaments here is Australia ( Bream -saltwater) there was a top angler who ran a 285 STRATOS & it had a 175 VERADO L4. It may have been tweeked as well , but fully loaded with 2 guys & gear + fuel , we were topping out at 118kph ( 73.3 mph ). A wild ride but FAST !!!!

Must have been the Pro 285 XL model that is rated for a 175 I think. The regular 285 XL is only rated for a 150.
I currently own a 2007 285 Pro XL DC, It's probably the best all around bass boat money can buy. I have no issues with it, I have a 150HPDI Yamaha running a 25-M prop, at 5300/5500 rpm, holds a good ride at 58-61 mph, loaded with live well full, two average fishermen and gear. That's by gps, prop height get's it on pad fairly quick too. I'm pleased, because it doesn't cost a fortune to operate. Just made over a 150 miles in 4 runs in a two day tourney and she never missed a stroke and handled great. I have had nothing but Stratos or Javelin boats most of my life, I would not trade this 285 for any other boat in the under 20ft class.
ditto, here I own a 2005 pro xl with merc 150 optimax love it every time I take it in for regular maintenance everyone at the dealer wants to buy it , not for sale best boat for the money 18 ft class
I own a 07 magnum with a 175 optimax. Top end in the winter months is 67.1 GPS. Not quite as smooth in rough water but I will take the swap out in speed over my brothers skeeter which rides better but slow as molasses. He runs a hpdi 150. We have a friend that runs a skeeter with a 175 hpdi and I smoke him too. So if you don't mind a bumpy ride in rough water you will be good. I love mine.
I've got a '93 285 pro xl with a 150 johnson faststrike and I've topped out at 62 mph on the gps. I can't tell you anything that hasn't already been mentioned above. Best of luck buying your new ride.
