LSS-1 Mounting on Ranger 350V

Let me start by saying I was OK with the size of my boat until I got my LSS-1 today and realized I really don't have a good place to mount the box.

The only place I can think to mount it is under the console. In order to do that I am going to have to choose one of three options.

1. Drill through the front or side of the console and have screws with trim washers showing on the outside. (I really don't want to do this)
2. Epoxy a cutting board or something to the inside of the console and screw the box directly into that (Not sure if epoxy will bond well in that application)
3. Fabricate a bracket to mount it to the floor using Aluminum angle and 1/8" or 1/4" sheet stock and screw it into the floor. (While it would be standing up, I think it would probably get in the way)

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Does anyone have pictures of an LSS-1 or 2 box mounted in a 350V?


On to the Transducers. My plan was to epoxy the 2D transducer in the hull and then mount the SS transducer on the step. Now that I am questioning the size of my boat, I am not sure I want to do anything permanent. I am thinking of just mounting both transducers on the back of the transom old school style. I already have a bracket from an old Lowrance unit that was on the boat before I got it. I would just need to mount the SS transducer on the back right next to it...

Input would really be appreciated...

Do you have a storage or rod box in front of console.I mounted mine in front storage box on right side in front of console.I had a 350 ranger but I cannot remember had it is laid out.

Nope, no rod locker on that side. I found another alternative for mounting the box itself. As you are sitting behind the console, there is a bracket (broken when I bought the boat) for a fire extinguisher. I removed that bracket, and made a mounting plate to use those screw holes and a hole in the cigarette lighter bracket.

I got it mounted, just need to clean up some of the wires I pulled down during the process...

I am going to trim just a little more off the front edge of the mounting plate and then use some split gas line on the outside edge so I don't have to worry about cutting my foot or anything.

Still not sure what to do on the Transducer.

Thank you sir! Here is my problem with the step. From the drawing (to scale) below, you can see that the top part of the step actually is pretty curvy. Transducer Shield and Saver didn't seem to understand when I sent them the picture. I don't think they have made a wedge for this hull before. Their suggestion was for them to send me a wedge and let me sand it myself to fit the hull. I have a couple of issues with that... First of all, if I am paying $80 or $90, I shouldn't have to sand anything. I have provided them with the profile and am not comprehending why they cannot produce the part with the proper angle and take the contour of the step into account... They have not been rude, or unprofessional, I just don't agree that I should have to do the work. If I start sanding on it and make it fit the profile, the final angle will change and then I will not be getting any benefit from the wedge. Once I sand it, I am also pretty sure that they will not replace the part if it ends up with the wrong angle and my picture looks like poo..

I finally finished the wedge this weekend. I will get it mounted in the next day or two. It will only be seen when the boat is out of the water, but I was able to find some plastic the matches the boat pretty well. I went a little overboard with making sure it was going to be level when in the water. I put the boat in the water and used a digital level to find the angle the boat is at when floating. I brought it back home and duplicated that angle on the trailer in the garage. Once I had that angle I was able to cut the wedge and get it to within a tenth of a degree of level with me and half a load of fuel in the boat. Again, overboard I know... But hey, I wanted it level...

There is no such thing as "overboard". It's either done correctly or not! I think you did a great job on those items!!
