Wifes boss................ kinda long!
Well my wife calls me on the way home from work today and informs me that her afternoon meetimg with her boss was as we had expected. He told her that because of the money being tight rite now he would have to cut back some salarys, starting with her(shes the company manager). Cut hers by 25,000 a year now thats gonna hurt. her company vehicle is gone along with her ins.(400.00) a month. And to make matters worse we get to sell or camper and probabaly my boat that is with in a few months being paid for. I guess it could be worse cause he could have closed the doors, it just pisses me off when somebody like him could have a multi-million dollar operation and has pissed away most of his money on stupid shit like his condo's and stupid cars and toys, and not to mention his ex-wife that he had to take care of!!!!!! cause of his stupidity now i have to scramble to make my bills till i can sell most of the stuff that i have bought. Just wish he could see what his actions effect his employs lives!!!! sorry for the rant folks i guess i feel some better will let ya'll know if my boat goes up for sale. keep my wife in your prayers please she's not handling this well at all! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthdown.gif

That just sucks http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthdown.gif It never ceases to amaze me how the clowns sometimes end up running the circus. Wish the economy was better so she could tell him to go to hell and find another job.

If your that close to paying off the toys ya might want to think about trying some how to make the payments, you will take a beating selling them and it is very hard to try and buy again at a later date! And things may turn around quicker then ya think!!
Sorry to hear about your wifes pay cut!!
Re: Wifes boss................ kinda long! (Largemouthlou)
100% agree what Lou said.
In addition, and this may not be well received, however, If your the owner of the company you have the right to do as one pleases, obviously within law...and that includes buying condo's, cars and other toy's....as well, cutting wages. The flip side to the coin is the owner should recognize the great work the employee(s) have done for them. If not, the employer could ( read "should" ) surfer the consequences. ie, the great ones leave the company for greener pastures. I'm willing to wager green money your wife's boss just didn't become an ass overnight. Your post indicates a lot of cut back from your wife...my guess, it's a last ditch effort to save the business altogether or it's his way of asking your wife to leave without laying her off or firing her.
We, my wife and I, have employees, and do our damnedest to make sure what we promised them when we hired them, we continue to do. We've taken personal cuts from our business's before and our employees know it. Not a whole lot in business sickens me more than to see an owner treat their employees without respect. I've had to lay off employees because of the economy. Trust me, it is one of the worst gut wrenching feelings in the world as an employer to have to let a guy go because I couldn't do my job as his employer and keep him employed. That said, when construction picks back up, I know I have 5-6 guys that would be at the shop tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. if I called them right now and said I have work.
Best of luck to you and your wife in this struggling time.

As a small business owner also, I feel I need to comment and it probably won't be taken well but just think about it..
Small business owners NEVER expected the economy to go in the tank like it did. I don't believe that her boss is being an ass at all.... he is just trying to keep his business afloat. Employees expect raises when the business is doing well and i understand that but boy the names you get called and the bitching and moaning when they get their salaries cut when the economy sucks or even worse when they get laid off. When my business slowed way down I decided to cut my own salary just to keep from laying off a couple guys because I knew that my employees did not have any money saved back in case of an emergency. The employees knew that the business was very slow and none of them volunteered to have their hours or pay cut to help me out but just had their hands out on Friday. This was the worst business mistake I made in 25 years as it could have bankrupted me and I don't think the employees would have cared. Small business owners take the RISK and should be able to reap the REWARDS without being judged.
Sorry about the rant.... but try to look at it from the other side
Re: Wifes boss................ kinda long! (bigrich207)
I am sure sorry to hear about your wife's pay and benefits being cut. That is surely a bummer. But, as others have said, the owner has the right to spend his money as he sees fit, whether you agree with him or not. Maybe he could have managed his money better in your eyes or in the eyes of others, but...it is his money and his company. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif If I were you, I would try to pay off the things you can rather than try to sell them. At least take time to mull things over before you do something with your finances that you may regret later.
Re: Wifes boss................ kinda long! (billius)
One thing we don't know is this. Did the owner buy all these homes, toys, etc. when the business was making money? Do we know if the owner has cut his pay too? Did the owner purchase these items from personal money or the business? I remember the days of being self employed and having to cut my pay when business was down. My 2 employees didn't take a pay cut but I did and kept it going. I was blessed enough to be able to do this but I finally got tired of fighting the battle and sold out.

He was bitching because her idiot boss ran the place like a friggin idiot, not cutting back on how he spent business money, and likely pulling company money to pay for personal issues.
The result? Driving the business into the ground at the peril of people who depend on competent managers to keep them working.
May Karma come back to all the managers like this, and they lose their homes, and everything else like so many other hard working Americans have.
Re: Wifes boss................ kinda long! (billius)
I hear what you're saying, and any pay cut is hard to swallow. BUT, if her salary was cut $25,000, she obviously has a pretty good job. Lost the company car? Have to pay your own insurance now? If she is unhappy, maybe she can find another job that will pay her just as much as she was making and with all of those perks. If she starts looking, let us know if she finds one like that again.
No offense, but $25,000 in itself is a very decent annual salary where I live (as it is in Corinth, MS too). I can count on one hand the people I know with company vehicles. And my wife's company does pay for her insurance, but if she were to add my son and I she has to pay for all of it. Those were some 'perks' that most people never see. And you guys obviously have spent a lot of your extra income on toys as well (like your boss) because you said that you will have to sell your camper and your boat. Most people do well to have one or the other, but you have both.
I have had my annual incentive slashed by more than 50% (wasn't much to begin with), and not gotten any kind of an increase two of the last three years (and don't know about this year yet). But I love my job and am more than thankful to have it.

Thats a big cut and sucks for sure. Hope things work out and you cand find a way to keep the toys. Pay them off now if you can and the interest saved will help.

If you read his original post again he is bitching because his wife's boss spent a bunch of money on condos.

No offense, but her boss may think that your boat and camper are stupid and that you should've saved your money as well.
The economy sucks right now and most people are paying for it some more then others. Just be thankful that for right now she still has a job and you have to get rid of your toys and not your house.

not to mention that his personal purchases might not have anything to do with the success of the company. Not only might he have bought some of that stuff in better times...he might also be an employee of the corp and getting paid.
He might have investments...other sources of income.
His personal wealth and corporate wealth are probably VERY well separated.
He could have just eliminated her position....or laid her off all together.
We also do not know....could be he has his condo up for sale...or has pulled another mortgage on it. He may have taken a pay cut himself.
You just do not know.

Maybe her still having a job period is reflective of good business decisions by her boss....

As a small business owner I agree with this...also as mentioned above most of us (myself included) take the hit before we pass it on to the employees. Without walking in his shoes hard to say what sacrifice he made. At least they are looking for ways to keep the business afloat.
Hope things pick up for you guys shortly!
