Muscatine!!! Kilpeck Landing has a decent ramp but nowhere to beach the boat and no docks. All rock. Big Timber (The Breaks) puts ya right into the backwaters so you don't have to run there. The ramp itself is pretty sad. Angles into the water and ya have to wade about ankle deep to load and unload. Sand banks make it easy to beach but no docks there either. The ramp in Muscatine is the best bet. Someone else may chime in about the Illinois side, I'm not familiar with those ramps at all. If I'm looking to just go fishing, I'll put in at Big Timber. If I'm looking ro run and gun I'll put in at Musctine. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Thanks Joe, I'll be staying in Muscatine so I'll check those ramps out.
I work in Muscatine, when ya gonna be here?
April 26- May 1
Uh oh... Flood time! I wouldn't be surprised if at that time Muscatine would be your only option.
I would really like to spend time on 13 but I can't see myself losing all that time in locks and running. I think 17 will be my best option.
Seventeen has been my home pool. I used to hate it. Three years in a row I locked up to Bettendorf (Pool 15) during our Pool 17 tournament I hated it so bad. But last year it really turned on http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif . I don't know why, everything seemed to be the same as previous years but the fishing got better by leaps and bounds. We ended up culling from 17 keepers and finished second by a couple of ounces. Never did find our kicker fish. Caught some brutes pre fishing but not on tournament day. Hopefully that good fishing is here again this year. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
If you were not going to fish pool 13, do you think 17 would be a good choice!

Oh wow... I really son't know what the best option would be. I know very little about Pool 16. The only times I've been on it are when I'm blasting through to 15. In my experience it's been a terrible pool. But I've never been on it in the spring when the backwaters can be accessed. Two years ago I would've said my spot on Pool 15 would be a great place but my weedbeds disappeared after the '08 flood. Pool 17 was VERY good last year but I still view it as hit and miss. Of our 17 keepers on torunament day our best 6 only weighed 12 lbs http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif . I have caught a good number of very solid bass and some hawgs have been coming out of there in the past couple of years too. I guess it all depends on what the river is like. I personally don't like it in high water as the fish really scatter onto the islands. Normal pool and I wouldn't hesitate to fish it. It's a coin flip is the best I can describe it. Had so many disappointing tournaments on there that I just can't say I have the utmost confidence in it despite the past two years. Probably rambling and I don't want to scare ya off that pool. To sum it up.... if it's not flooded really bad, I'd probably fish 17. Pool 13 is just TOOOOOOOOOOOO far for my likes, 16 sucks, flood killed my Pool 15 spots and I don't know any other spots on there, and I know VERY little about Pool 14. There, how's that...... Clear as mud? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
Thanks again!
Rick,
The Iowa Federation will be taking out of that ramp that weekend also. So the pool will be busy that week. Stop by and check the weigh in out.

Thanks Darrin, which day or days is the tournament. Are you guys using the ramp in Muscatine? I'll stop by and check things out, look for the really confused looking guy http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif :
Official Practice will be May 1st and tourny may 2cd and 3rd. The weigh in is at the city ramp. Most people will start showing up on wed. The tournament has been about a 70 boat turnout the last few years but we will see. This is not everyones favorite pools.

I'll be leaving to go home on the 2nd so I'll miss your weigh in, I am not shore yet if I will spend the entire week on 17, I might end up on another pool for a couple of days. I'm staying at the Super 8 in Muscatine so if you guys get a chance stop by and see me, Blue GMC Yukon and Ranger Z-21 with Maryland tags. Thanks again Joe and Darin.
I'll definitely stop over and chat with ya. Just a couple of minutes from where I work. Actually, I can see the Super 8 from where I work. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
I will keep an eye out for you. I will be on 16-18 that week practicing. If you see a Black Z20 with a Hammer it's probably me.
Darrin
Joe, Do you work at Carver?
Darrin
Yeah.... why, what have you heard? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif It's rather ugly right now.
I havent heard a thing most of my employees spouses work at GPC, Hon or Allsteel. So I usually only hear about those. I was curious to what they built at Carvers I kinda figured it out from your post in the lounge. I hope everything works out for you and everyone else in town.
