1998 175 Evinrude FICHT temp issue
Hello guys,
I posted on the board a couple of days ago about my temp gauge readings.
Put the boat in the water yesterday. Started it up and let it run for a 5 minutes. The temp gauge got up to 140 degrees. Started out of the channel and by the time I got out to open water the gauge was pushing 195 to 200. I increased the speed to around 2500 rpms for a couple of minutes (thought this might open the thermostats up) and the temp gauge went down to 170. Is this normal for the motor. No overheat alarm went off. The motor runs really well and I was surprised on how quite it was. It has the pinned heads and the software upgrade and a new oil pump. Does the thermostats (two of Then) need to be replaced?.
I appreciate any imput you guys have. Chris

The model and serial #'s will help the guys. The temps above 175 don't sound right to me. Although I don't have a temp gauge on mine. The gurus can help you more with the info off the engine!

Thanks for the reply Bassmeister
The Model # is E175FSXEC and the serial # is 4439333. The motor also has had the software upgrade #5001212.
Hope you, Rusty, championman or Sea Horse can give me some advice.
