1997 Johnson 130 hp. Motor wants to quit at idle
Model J130TXAUM, converted to long shaft from XL shaft. I've had this motor for a couple of years now. It runs great except for this intermittent problem where it wants to quit at idle. When I got the motor 2 years ago, I rebuilt all the carbs before I ever ran it, took it to a dealer for the sync. and link, so I don't have anything to compare it too.
The problem I am having is, when it is out of warm up mode and you shut it down and restart it, it idles right up, but a few seconds later the idle sometimes slows down and it sometimes quits. It will start right back up again. It doesn't do it all the time, but I have noticed that it does it mainly when it gets warm and humid out. I ran the motor earlier this spring in cooler temps and didn't have the problem. It also seems to idle a little rough when you start it back up after it is warmed up. But, if you bring it down to idle after a high speed run, it idles and runs very smooth. It almost seems like it is getting too much gas when you first start it up.
Any ideas what is causing this and where I should start looking?

Give your low speed jets 1/4 turn clockwise.

Thanks Fred. Should I turn them all in 1/4 turn or just do one bank (upper and lower) at a time? I'm thinking maybe it is just one or two carbs acting up, but I have no way of telling which one(s). I believe I have all carbs set out slightly more than preset (3.5 turns) right now.

Do the upper first then the lower if necessary.
