Testing overheat horn on 99 johnson 90hp and need help
I am trying to test my overheat horn on my motor and i either am not doing it right or the horn is not working. There is a tan wire going into the head on the motor which i take is the temp sensor, if i put this wire to ground and turn the key on the horn should sound, correct? its not... There are two wires (tan and white) going into the exact same spot on the head but on the other two cylinders...should i be using one of them? Please help..
thanks
Chad

On your '99 motor, with the key ON and the tan wire ( on the engine side of the harness) grounded, only the HOT lite will come on, not the horn. The engine has to be running for the horn to sound. It should beep once when you turn the key to ON. If not, get it checked out.

I dont have the gauge at all in my boat...It looks to me like the previous person removed a gauge from the dash and i would guess this was the gauge...Will i only need a gauge and just plug it in? does the audible tone come fromt he gauge or from a different horn? anyway to test the horn to see if i need a new one of them too before i go ordering parts? thanks..
