Just tried out 150 E-tec

Well it took longer to get everything rigged and so had to settle for a late day trial close to home. As others reported,the engine started before I could release the key. After a few minutes warm up we were off. First the good stuff....The response and acceleration are almost frightening. The boat was on plane and at 30 mph in an instant at only 3000 rpm. After a few turns to get a feel for everything I throttled up and again the response was amazing! We hit 53.8 mph at 5300 rpm without touching the trim. Pretty fair for a 17 ft. walleye boat.........There were some drawbacks I have to phone the dealer about though. The engine runs a bit rough with slight vibration between 1500 and 3000 rpm. The scary part was when we went from sheltered water to the rough part of lake in 3 ft. waves. As I tried to take the engine out of gear to see how the waves would affect the boat,I had to really pull at the control and when it did go into neutral the engine idle was at 2000 rpm. The only way to get it in gear was to start the engine while immediatly putting it in gear. At the dock it was still idling too high and we had to use the kicker to get in. Hope it's not a software problem as dealer is 10 hrs. round trip

Your dealer is to blame for shifting problem , the issue with rough running at 3000 rpm seems to be the same issue I had with my 150 fichts, they really didn't like to run at that r.p.m. You could run them a little lower or higher but not at 3000 and get a smooth feel . I decided not to rush the install of my motors just for that reson of making mistakes with rigging . It kills me but, hey I've waited this long what's one more week!

One point you will be interested in mako is the NMEA. All engine data shows up on the LMF-200 and LCX-25C chartplotter-Engine temp,hours load, fuel data, system check,etc. Adaptor cable supplied by brp is just a Lowrance cable that brp added their plug to.

Maybe just lucky, but I have not had these issues with my E-TEC 150.

Talked to dealer and he said it was probably one of two things--either loose throttle cable clamp or throttle position sensor. I checked the clamp which was slightly loose but not so the cable could pop out. Ran engine on hose and it idled fine,however it seemed to take e second to slow down after the throttle lever was placed at idle position. Does this sound normal? Also it does not run as smoothly under 3000 rpm as over 3000-also normal?

The dealer needs to check and see if the throttle arm is touching the stop.

Yep. They don't call it a predelivery checklist for nothing. Sounds like the roller is touching the arm, might be sticking and not letting the engine idle down. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
