Need help from Ht or any of the guys. I have owned my Ranger 06 Z-20 w/225 hpdi since it was new, I know they are not the fastest!! My best was 71 after prop mod by Mark Croxton..Usually with two 1/2 tanks and tackle between 67-69.What could add more speed (top end) at a reasonable price?? Anyone have this set-up and done any modifications???
The best bang for the bucks are the heads. Now just how much gain you are talking about I could not say but the heads should add 15 - 20 hp. A that kind of hp gain I would be guessing that you see may be 2 - 3 mph increase.
The best thing about HT and mods is each one complmentnst the other....I have seen Stratos go 90+ Bullets 100+ Strokers 110+ Tritons near 100 Skeeters close to 90... the power can be felt trough out the rpm range..
rest assured you will have one of best performing z20 around who knows with a phase 3 you might get to 80 did I just say that a 80 mph Ranger http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif
Do a phase 2 kit. You should pick up about 4-5mph. Don't sound like much but if you were like me and you always push your boat and sit at 71mph all day long empty trying to squeek out that little bit more..it's worth it. I used to do 68-69mph tourney loaded..drove me crazy I couldn't get over 70mph that way. Now it's 73-74mph loaded and 76mph empty. I'm sure with a better prop I can pick up a couple more mph. Makes me want the lightweight flywheel and phase 3 upgrades already!!
We have had decent results with even the big heavy Rangers! I would think with a Phase II Kit you could pick up a few mph. Also the lightweight flywheel might be a good option for you especially with a heavier boat - it just makes it feel a little lighter on its feet. A little quicker holeshot and better mid range.
