Can the Yamaha 300 HPDI beat the Mercury 250 ProXS take off?
I asking for advice...
Which has the best take off speed? I am a Yamaha four stroke person who is ready to buy a Puma FTD but can't decide which motor to go with. I want the fastest take off and top speed in the 70's. I have only been in a Puma with a Merc250ProXS....Would like the Yamaha but unsure of take off speed.

i have a 300 hpdi series two and have no problem beating them off the line on thursday evening tournys and top end , we line up 40 -50 boats at a time and theres allways 1 or two there.

I think this really has more to do with the boat than the motor. My 210 champ with a 300 in my opinion is kinda sluggish out of the hole compared to my old boat which was a zx200 skeeter with a 200 vmax. My buddies triton 20x ripps out of the whole and he's running a 225 pro xs. I honestly think if i had a 250 on my boat it would get on plane faster just because of the lower pitched prop. I'll keep my 300. Makes it funner when i catch you and go by.

The 300 HPDI seems to have a little less torque on the bottom than a 250 HPDI.
