1997 200hp Johnson Venom Gear Shift Lever Loose
I have a 1997 Ranger 518 with a 200 Johnson Venom and my gear shift lever is starting to get loose. I have taken it part of the way apart to try and tighten it up, but I can't find anything to tighten. Anybody know where you tighten the lever up at? Do you tighten it from the front or the back? Thanks, Brad

Does it feel loose at the shifter? Or when it is gear? Pull the facia plate off of the shifter and tighten the bolt at the bottom of the shifter, or pull the cowl and make sure the lock down bolt hasn't backed off 3/8" bolt at shift cables. CM http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/pimp2.gif

It isn't loose going forward and backward, I can slide it in and out on the shaft. I didn't use to be able to do this and it feels like it is going to fall off. I took the front cover off the lever and I can't find anything to tighten. I figured there would be some kind of set screw that held the lever on the shaft.

Welcome to the BBC.
Shift the shifter into reverse (you may have to spin the prop) at the front of the bottom of the shift handle there is a slot,(does this make sense?) inside that slot is a 1/8 allen head screw, push in on the handle and tighten the allen screw.

Hey Rusty63, glad to be on here. That is the only thing I didn't try putting it in reverse. Pulled it back tightened it up and it is good as new. Thanks for all the help. Learn a lot from reading what you guys post on here. Thanks again, Brad. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
