Thats what I was thinking (to some degree). Anything under 5000 is lugging that motor and most other motors. The 130 V4 Yamaha was rated 5500-6000 and they are pretty much identical engines, so...

Eleven year old motor ... keep it down at 5500...no sense testing this older engine above mfg specs....and I'll bet the increased speed is minor.
If it blows you'll regret it.

My friend gives me a hard time because even though my yamaha is 11 years old, it probably has fewer hours on it than a 2009 model! All I need is some weight in the boat and I wont "red-line". Thanks

http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif That is perfect for the conditions. 500 rpm over recommended 5500 rpm is at least 5 mph or more if you have a good prop.

Yessir, she is propped good. Had mark B&B, clean and add cup to my pro series prop 5 years ago. Those last few hundred RPMs sure does lift and add a few MPH
