So I'm thinking about buying a 2001 yamaha 150?
So I'm thinking about buying a V150TLRZ it was on rental boat. (tri-toon) The guy doesn't know how many hours it has on it. So my question how can I find out the hours before I buy this thing. And can anybody give me some details about this model motor.(length shaft, efi, hpdi, cabs, etc) I plan on checking compression in it. Are these good motors without a history of problems?

when buying a used outboard a cylinder compression test is a must

Is this motor carburetor motor? That's one of my questions about this motor.

I found out this was a carb motor. the compression on it 100lb-115 across the board. Can anyone tell me the factory compression on these motors.

Stay away from it. Compression should be within a 10% variance, or 11.5 lbs. At 15 lbs difference (100-115) it is out of variance.

Compression is??? I would pass...

I forgot to add that this motor was cold. I'm guessing last time it was started was week or so ago.

I don't think it matters, but you might try it again just to verify your results. You would like to see 120 across the board. The motor will run fine with less but it is an indicator of wear. And more than a 10% variance means it needs to be rebuilt.

Could just need to be decarbed. All compression testers vary in readings between brands. I wouldn't be afraid of this motor.
