I own a 1998 150 Saltwater Series II. I'll be replacing the batteries this spring. What size do you all recommend for the starting battery? I've read the manual and it says something along the lines of 380 CCA. I think that is light.

You can't call a wrecker for your boat, at least not in most places. Get a good one.
Get the biggest one that you can fit. If you do not want any water maintenance get an "AGM" type. No water maintenance, no spilliage, good with shock (bouncing around), and require no special charger but a good multi-stage charger is recommended.
Many boats use the starter battery for other things as lights, bilge pumps, live wells, trim tilt etc...etc...
A good big battery is the Sears PM1. 3 year fully replace warranty (not prorated)...pricey but good!
I have four of them in my bass boat ...three for tm and one for start. only have them for 6 months but so far so good.
Just go get a Everstart Maxx 29 at WalMart. It will crank and run all your accessories great for about $80 and has an 18 month replacement warranty.

The Maxx 29 has been cranking my 250 with hot heads and running all my acc for 8 years. 2 different batteries as I changed it in 5-07. Noobe question here but does the Group Size 29DC mean this is a deep cycle battery? I was under the impression you don't want a deep cycle for a starting battery?
A cranking battery will not deep cycle... But a deep cycle will crank. They normally have less cranking amps. But as long as it has more than the min your motor requires, your good to go. Not to mention you use the same batt for all your acc and the batt with the most RC wins.

Yeah that's the "boat" Im in with batteries. I have friends that spend a chit load of money on cranking batteries and friends that don't. I don't believe that it is necessary to spend the chit load to get a battery that works just fine.
Lots of boats do fine every year without ±$300 batteries.
Keep the opinions coming....they're well received. I found a NAPA store brand, made by DEKA, for about $65. Size 24 with 550 CCA. It is a sealed lead acid battery. Seems to be enough to crank my yamaha.
Ihave a 1991 2.5 200 and minds say 350 cca . I been running the older Everstart group 24 with two gps 7inch units with know problems. I just charge them once every two weeks are as needed . Just got two maxx group 29 for TM with know problem . When the starting battery go i think i am going with a group 26 or the bigger 29 group . For the money they are for me .And like Mike said they are good batterys , i fished on the TM all day about a week ago jut to see if they will stand up . Do not put a group 24 battery in your boat... Not near enough RC to run your acc and "then" crank your motor. Nobody complains about having too much power, just those that dont have enough.
Group 27 min, preferrably a group 29 to 31.

Many marine batteries are rated MCA... Not CCA.. The MCA/Marine Cranking Amps is rated at 32*... Not 0* like Cold Cranking Amps.

Like mike said i wouldnt put a 24group battery in the boat unless you going to just joy ride .When i put minds in the boat i just had the motor rebuild and want to just break the motor end so the tech could go over the motor before the winter set end and want a lite load on the boat to set it up .
I was going to pull it out and put it a older truck i had ? But never did and it has not gave me know problems so far , knock on wood ihave the older lcx units and annt. that dont pull a lot of amps and very rare do i run my live pumps at all ?
That why when this one go i will pulling it and replace it with a group 29 for $15 more and it will last all day running every thing on the boat and have plenty of starting power ? Also i see that you said you want to replace this spring . Check the batterys to get one around the same month you are buying it . They have a label on them when they came in to the store other wise you will be buying old ones that been on the shelve . I bought my Sears PM-1 on sale for $200, just keep an eye on them they go on sale every few months. When I have multiple SI/GPS graphs on all day long, live well pumps running, 20 pounds of smallies in the wells and am 30 miles from the weigh in ramp, after considering all the money I spent to put myself in that position, an extra $90 to buy the absolute best cranking battery I can seems like a bargain. I had a new Everstart let me down this year in a tourney, but luckily I had jumper cables. Nothing wrong with Everstarts, but lesson learned. I am certainly not an advocate of wasting money, but if you are going to go for the best, a cranking battery is a very wise investment especially when compared to other things we spend money on in this sport. The added bonus of not adding/checking water and fumes in your bilge compartment is also nice.
