Re: Trim cap stuck (Skeet Skeet-er)
The Yamaha tool specific for that cap removal has 4 pins that engage the cap, so if you tried it with one that has two pins, you may have damaged the cap to the point that the correct tool will not work. I know ths because a buddy of mine had the same issue, and when he took his boat to the Skeeter dealer, the correct tool broke because all pins would not engage all the holes together because the holes were slightly wallowed out a bit. Maybe a heat gun to the tube just beneath the threads might help.
Re: Trim cap stuck (bhjr.)
Yamaha dealer tool won't work now as the cap has a pin stuck in the hole. If the dealer broke his tool on your buddies boat how did they manage to get the cap off? Never seen a trim cap so tight before, my tilt cap and other trim cap were easy as others have been but this one AARRRARARGGGHGh http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif

What tool did you use after heating it up? Any seals get cooked? I'm going to take back the wrench that broke and replace it with another and try heating it up.
Any other methods to recommend?
Re: Trim cap stuck (Skeet Skeet-er)
I had a though time getting it off with a spanner wrench so after heating it up I used extra large channel locks to grip the outside edge of the cap and it came right off. I file down the grooves a little and it looks almost good as new. I was replacing the seals anyway but no, the old ones did not get cooked. At least I couldnÂt tell if they did.
Re: Trim cap stuck (Rich Z)
Might just have to try that, I have new cap, seals and rod so I really don't care what happens to the SOB as long as it comes off. THanks.
