Re: Thermostats (wmaybin)
It can cause your motor to run hot by taking the thermostats out. The water travels through the motor to fast to absorb the heat from the motor. The thermostats slow the water down giving time for the heat to transfer from the metal to the water.
Re: Thermostats (wmaybin)
Whithout thermostat, your engine will work under 125F, at this temperature the mix of fuel and air, won't evaporate enough to make a good combustion to run. To run at the same speed the throttle will be more open and will need more fuel, and the gas/milage will go down.
Any engine need work with a temperature at low speed and at high speed, this temperatura must be almost the same, if a engine stay at idle for long period and hit the throttle, the acceleration will alow a cold water to get in, if this engine don't have a thermostat valve, the engine block can crack.
If the engine is too hot, and without termostat, run better, the problem could be on impeller or at under power head passages.

Re: Thermostats (Ricardo Paragon)
well the water is cooler because it does not absorb the heat from the motor---but that means that the motor is running hotter than it should--temp sensor monitors the water temp in the engine----if it flows all the time it never absorbs very much of the heat in the engine it will show to be running cooler--in fact the metal the motor is made out of is getting hotter ----ouch

Install the thermostat kit #435597, that has the correct spring, t'stat, and cover. Make sure the rubber "ring" inside the t'stat cavity is not out of round or causing the thermostat to stick, they distort during severe overheating.
Also make sure you have the 5001594 water pump kit installed (20" shaft motors) as the 5001595 kit looks almost identical and will cause the 20" motor to overheat at high speeds.

Seahorse is on the money, this will work, do it all the time. If the thermostat seat is sticking to thermostat, you will have to remove the cylinder head to replace it. Get a manual or have a tech do it. It's not hard, but it is not the same as old style engines. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Re: Thermostats (wmaybin)
Now we need to fix the cooling system and the fuel system. Man this has gotten deep!!! We might even have a bad pack!! You better take it to Rusty, you can't beat a proposition like that!!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

I think our good ol' boy Rusty had a few too many St. Louis soda pops when he made that promise! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
