4 stroke 50hp differences?
What have been the changes with the 50hp 4 stroke since it came out in 96? I can't tell just from looking at them, but they have different part numbes for the same parts for different years?
I'm in the market for a 50 or 60 4-stroke, and I am wondering if there are any years to stay away from?
Thanks

I think you would be fine with any of the year models.I haven't heard of anything bad on any of them. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Re: 4 stroke 50hp differences? (xpress spanky)
the next question is, what would it take to convert the 50 to a 60? Is it just carb jetting, and computer, or would there be a lot of changes to make?
Thanks

There's a guy on one of the duck hunting boards called The Refuge. He knows how to do it. He's been racing small outboards forever. As a matter of fact he's from LA as well. He mostly knows the Merc's and Yamaha's as far as 4-s is concerned ..... 2-s he know's them all, especially Merc and Tahotsu.
But to answer your question, it depends on the year and make/model. Some it's as easy as removing the restrictor plate, other's it's the plate, timing and a new ECM. Also, apparently Merc has caught on to this as well, as I'm told you can not just go buy a ECM for another HP, now your serial number must match up. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif But there's always eBay. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif
Good Luck !
