Livewell pump

I just bought a 99 201 P.E. When using it for the first time, I realized that one of the Rule 800 Livewell pumps was cracked:bows: and needs to be replaced. It seems that the pump is mounted to the backside of the Livew:bows:ell and I am assuming it is held there by the nylon nut in the livewell. Am I correct in assuming so, and if I am, how do I take that son of a gun off. I can't even cbudge it with a pipe wrench . Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, do I have to use corrugated hose to re-connect everything or will reinforced clear hose work o.k?

Had a 97 201, pumps where factory mounted in the bilge area.

Now it seems that even if I can get it off, I can't find the same Rule pump that I took off. They seem to have changed the design. Do you have any idea if I can use, say an Attwood pump......if I ever get the old one off?

You should be able to use a different style pump and put in the bilge area if there is room and put a fitting at the live-well and connect with the correct size hoses. All my pumps (aerator and recirculating) are in the bilge area and connected by hoses.

I had the same problem in my 97. I hate to tell you this but I ended up taking a dremel tool and cutting the nut in pieces. I could not find the old style of atwood pumps either so I ended up changing mine as well. Just becareful how much pressure you put on the livewill cause the walls aren't very thick and appear they will crack easily.

Great! I didn't want to hear that about having to cut it off, but I was wondering if that wasn't going to have to be the case. Just when I think I got her licked, I get slapped in the face by a wet noodle.

The Tsunami pumps by Attwood look nice - I've checked them out in a store. They have an advantage of cartridge motors, too.

I have a Ridgid "Multi-tool" that is very useful when a big saw or hammer isn't quite what's needed. If I needed to cut off a locked-up pump, that would be my tool of choice. If you aren't familiar with them, the multi-tools are basically a ~20,000 cycle vibrator to which you can attach various blades. This means you can go very slowly and have great finesse-style control over what it cuts. The tool isn't large, so I feel I could get to the pump on the back of the livewell.
