motor acts as though it is starving for gas
have a 97 johnson ficht. when throtling up motor acts like it is starving for gas and surges. will run up to 3000 RPMS. When trying to throtle beyond this, it surges so badly it will not go beyond. made it back to the ramp. got home and pimer bulb was limp. motor starts and idles fine. is this related to the pimer bulb? thanks. Re: motor acts as though it is starving for gas (rtoon)
If you plan on doing it yourself, don't do a thing until you buy the factory service manual and the tools, software, laptop, pressure gauge, digital meter, etc. to do the job right.
If not, find a trained FICHT tech and chances are he will start with the engine history printout and any error code, then a compression check, and a TPS check. Then a running test with an alternate supply of fuel to rule out boat plumbing problems, and pressure gauges on the primary pump circuit and on the high pressure side to check for proper flow.
