Does anyone have any idea how many hours on average can be put on the motor before it needs to be overhauled? I was told by a friend the motor was designed to handle 4000 hours but that seems very high to me. Thoughts very much appreciated. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
These questions get asked alot, and the answer varies just as much. There are so many variables to take into consideration. I've not had a motor go that high myself, but I personally know of a few sitting on boats in Florida that are upwards of 2,00-2,500, and I'm sure there's some higher than that.
Most engines are looking at about 1500-2000 hours if well maintained. Like exo stated many variables that cannot always be measured. Quality fuel, overheating events, over propped, not decarbed etc etc.
