Help Slow Starting Hole Shot - 2002 Yamaha 250 ox66
Okay, this happened all day. Everytime I took off and did not do this before.
I run ring free and stabil ethanol treatment religously. Around October I ran seafoam through a whole tank of gas.
I would give it plenty of gas and it would take 5- 8 seconds for it to wind up and get me on plane. Once up, she ran like a bat out of hell.
I am going to change the spark plugs with a new set. What else can I do?
Need help depsarately.
Thanks.

Checked oneon the engine and the float ring is good. I have a 10 micron installed and changed it out 7 months ago. Are you thinking that it might be clogged?
Do I just replace the whole thing are just the guts?
thanks,

Did you clean the O2 sensor AFTER you ran the SeaFoam through it? If not, I'd definately check that. Other things I'd check---plugs, fuel filters, 3 fuel pumps.
Re: Help Slow Starting Hole Shot - 2002 Yamaha 250 ox66 (slapshot)
It did just fine after the seafoam and that was back in Sep/Oct. No Issues what so ever.
Re: Help Slow Starting Hole Shot - 2002 Yamaha 250 ox66 (SkeeterDon)
I'd change the 10 micron filter. Don't know what you have on yours, but mine is a spin on filter, and I just spin the old off and spin a new one on.

I do that annually and it is not ready for the change yet, but that is something easy.
Anyone else.
Thanks

Mine did that last year and it was the gas, sitting for 2 months.

What did you do to solve the issue?
Re: Help Slow Starting Hole Shot - 2002 Yamaha 250 ox66 (SkeeterDon)
Drain the gas out,put new gas, change spark plugs.
Re: Help Slow Starting Hole Shot - 2002 Yamaha 250 ox66 (SkeeterDon)
so does she just take off slow, or is there a mis when you drop the hammer down
Re: Help Slow Starting Hole Shot - 2002 Yamaha 250 ox66 (SkeeterDon)
Our engine seems to be prone to an initial "bog" on take-off. An old article from Bass and Walleye boats from around 2003 even remarks about it. Mine improved after following the tuneup instructions from the manufacturer: check throttle bodies to be sure all throttles open and close exactly the same, adjust throttle cable, adjust TPS (I think this is the secret). The hesitation seems to be worse in very hot weather. Sometimes it is faster to take off at 50-70% throttle, then get into it hard. Like you said, it runs like a scalded dog after you get out of the hole http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

She takes off slow. No missing. This did not happen a couple of months ago.
Do you think the cold temps below freezing might have done something?
