Fogging a 250 HPDI Series 2 versus a 200 Opti Max
A buddy of mine with 200 Opti Max was told by a certified Mercury mechanic, that you can fog an Opti Max without ever taking the plugs out. He said to, turn the key to on, but don't crank the engine, then put the gear shift lever in drive and then to neutral 3 times and this will kick on the automatic oil injection into the cylinder heads. Then turn the key over to crank a few short times to coat the cylinder walls with the oil. I know on my old 225 EFI, I used to pull the plugs and then shoot the fogging agent into the cylinder heads and that is how I did my new 250 HPDI Series 2. Does anyone know if you can use the above described procedure for an Opti Max on a HPDI - without pulling each spark plug? Just curious.

By doing as your certified Mercury mechanic told your buddy to do, he just put his motor back into the double oil mode, same at breaking in the motor all over again. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emhammer.gif http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emhammer.gif You did the right thing with your HPDI.

You did it right. Now your buddy will spend the next 10 hrs going through a ton of oil on his Opti. At our shop, we hook the motor up to the computer and and manually run the oil pump. Doing this way doesn't reset the breakin period. The resetting method is the lazy mans way of doing things. Besides u can't put fog into an Opti as it will void the warranty. Thats why Yammies are the best!!!!
