switching from Yamalube to Amsoil...
I have been researching alot about Amsoil and today I placed an order for 2 gallons. My question is this...This spring I ran Sea-Foam to decarb. Since then I have been using Star-Tron ethanol treatment with each fill up. Some dont think the ST will clean carbon but if you read about it it will. My HPDI does not smoke much anymore on start up which is a sign to me that the carbon has been cleaned out. Should I decarb again before I switch to the Amsoil or will the cleaning agents take care of any carbon that may be left?

definately decarb again before switching.
Also, no need to drain the oil resevoir. You can mix the amsoil in with the Yamalube, but I would try and lower the resevoir of the Yamalube as much as possible before adding Amsoil just for the hek of it! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif
You're gunna love Amsoil, been using it for around 10+ yrs http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

You are going to need more than 2 gallons just to fill your reservoir get 2 cases this oil is the bomb. When you decide to start using it pull the water separator on the motor oil tank and drain all the oil out and fill with Amsoil from the reservoir in the boat with the switch on the side of the motor. Pull the boat oil tank out and drain then fill with oil first. How many hours are on your motor?

If your still under warranty I think I was told Amsoil is not TCW3 rated. If you have problems might not be covered. Just something to think about.

Read the other tread I posted on Amsoil being TCW3 certified.

Im not doing any big TX this season just local stuff so 2 gallons will last long enough to find a good contact to continue buying from. Its a 2003 200 HPDI with about 75 hours. Warranty is long gone but she is new enough I want to feed her the good stuff. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif Most guys say just to run the oil down low and then add the Amsoil? Do you agree?

No empty every thing as I said drain the oil tank on the side of the motor by pulling off the water separator. Pull and emty the big tank. Then fill big tank to the top then turn the key on and the motor tank will fill it self. I heard on here by a dealer motor expert that you should have at least 50 hours on you motor before going to synthetic. I do not know how true that is cars run synthetic from oil change #1. It makes some sense to me Yamalube is like GLUE it has to be good for break in.

You should be running Sea Foam and Star Tron every gallon of gas since new. 1oz. per gallon Sea Foam and 2oz. per 16 gallons of Star Tron. Thats what I have done and that is what I will do on a new motor.
