E-TEC 225 went into SAFE mode low oil need help

Low oil and trying to get back to dock went into SAFE mode- Put new oil and and stayed into low RPM mode? What do i do-Go back to dealer? New and drinking oil put a gallon in that day before i went out~

Well found out it was oil pump~ was sending a steady flow instead of pulsating~so it was drinking oil!!!! Ordered new oil pump will be back on water Friday~ There was alot of oil throughout out the motor so it was well lubricated! Thanks for everyones input

Possible that their is some air in the oil line. With the engine running pump the hand bulb pump until it quits - may take a while. Happened to me at around the 8 hour mark which seemed strange that it happened then. When it happened I called a buddy that has an ETEC - he told me about pumping the bulb??? Worth a shot. After that day it never happened again and I have just under 200 hours on my twin 250s.

Your "problem" needs some clarification. The LOW OIL will not put your motor into SAFE mode, the NO OIL lite will.

Which is it?

As to "drinkiing oil", we all know that is not correct and since the motor is under warranty, you should have it at the dealers before you even got to this forum.

Not for sure-guessing no oil since it went to SAFE mode- Put new oil in and still stayed in this mode. Reason i say drinking oil- put a gallon in before tournament sat. and that evening sitting in this situation- should have had a extra gallon with me!! Will priming when i go to run in return it back! thanks for your help

Had me thinking when and check gauge under dash- no oil light turns on when i turn switch` feelin like a DA but never imagined burn this much in a day`

While the emm is in break in mode it will double the amount of oil used. As for the no oil light. give the oil primer bulb a couple of squeezes

Like the previous post said, during break in it may seem as you are using a lot of oil, but since so little fuel is burned, the amount of oil usually seems excessive.

Now that we know it is NO OIL that is putting it into SAFE, I would assume that your dealer did not do the prime initialization fo 90 seconds using the laptop and the diagnostic software like the manual says.

You didn't say which year but they recently made a change in the software to cut down on oil pressure alarms in cool weather. Take it to your dealer and ask him to re-prime, to check the hoses and fittings, and to check for the latest software. Be sure to be using XD-100 in oil tank if running in freezing temperatures.
