2001 3.1L V-MAX OX66 225HP
I have this motor. What should I do to keep it running well? I see posts about ringfree, seafoam, and others. What is the best to use to keep it going as I want it to last forever.
I fish year round so there is no need to winterize anything. Just want to know what I need to do to avoid troubles.
Suggestions???

Same motor here,1999. I use ringfree and have since new.The only thing I have replaced is the 02 sensor and adjusted the TPS(throttle position sensor). It is recommended that the motor not idle for long periods of time.I switched to a hotter plug and reduces fowling and idles better.Aslo when you stop to fish, trim the motor enough so that the unburned gas doesnt get to the plugs.

How often do you change the plugs? Where is the best place to get ringfree?

As for your question on ringfree or seafoam or what ever.
They are all good but the key is to use something. I use seafoam because my boat may sit for a month or so between runs. The seafoam is a fuel stabilizer also where ringfree is not.

When using seafoam, do you just pour it into the gas directly?

I change the plugs every 6 months and ringfree has to be bought at a Yamaha dealership.

Just wondering, does anyone use both ringfree and seafoam???

Another thing...I noticed this the last time I was out. It seems like it may be missing or something. I get going, plane up and then start trimming up to get going and it takes off fine and gets to about 55mph and then I can feel the motor let off. I pull back on the hotfoot and slowly push down and I'll get the "second boost" of speed (if that explains what I mean). Sometimes it will get up to 70+ and stay that way...sometimes it won't and I'll repeat the process and get going again. Any ideas? I am planning on changing the plugs to see if that helps.

sounds like plugs to me...I run the hotter BR8's now in my 2000 225 and haven't fouled a plug since ....

Sounds like fuel pumps. If they havent ever been changed do it.Boats.net has them for 40.00 each. There are three. If that doesnt help might be the o2 sensor,280.00 from a dealer.

before changing pumps.........check your fuel pump "diaphrams". They may have a hole, or just be weak (stretched out of shape) http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif If so, get new ones from your local Yamaha dealer.
Or it may be a dirty 02 sensor. They can be cleaned, if done properly. i take it out, and soak it in Deep Creep (made by Seafoam, it's actually Seafoam in a spray can)) If you do take out/clean 02 sensor, remember to purchase a new 02 sensor gasket, do not try to use the old one.
As for the 225OX66, it is a GREAT motor! Loves gas, but is about as bullet proof as they get.
ALWAYS run Ringfree or Seafoam in EVERY tank! http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif Ringfree is a cheaper route to go as for keeping a cleaner in it, but it is not a fuel stabilizer like Seafoam is. But being you're not sitting it over winter, and using it 12 months out of the year, I'd go with Ringfree. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif
