Yamaha F150 -- Motor acting funny -- maybe GAS problems or Fuel Filter
Guys, need some help here. I have an F150, 4 years old. I fish private lakes that are not very big. Engine not ran hard. I have noticed that my RPM's have dropped and the engine is not idling like normal. Just started a few weeks back. I know that the GAS has been a problem around here with Ethanol and water in the gas. Engine ran at 5800 to 5900 RPM's at WOT. I am now getting 5000 to 5200 at WOT. I am not getting on plane with 2 people and full tournament load. I can't get on plane with only myself in the boat and full live-wells. I only keep 1/4 full in gas tank. Lakes are small here. Do I have bad fuel filter? Does it sound like I have water in my tank? Need some personal experience problems from you guys. What do you think I should do? I have recently changed the spark plugs and the Oil Change is one week old.

Check the fuel seperator located on the front of the engine (under cowling). If you have water contamination, you should be able to see it. This seperator filter is clear in color. Being that the plugs were recently changed, are you sure the wires are fully seated on the plug? Other than lacking WOT rpms, is it running and idling smoothly?

It's idling, but it's not as smooth as it normally is. When it runs, it's smooth but not at the speed or the RPM's that it should be.

I agree!

We had one in last week with some of the same symtoms. It would only run 4800 and it had a clogged injector from the fuel problems. Just might want to check it.

what kind of fix is the clogged injector? I'm probably going to be taking the boat into the dealer next week. Are we talking big money or is it as simple as a paying the service fee and maybe a few bucks more?

They have a screen on them that can be cleaned. Unless you have a bad injector, it's not a real expensive job.
