Gotta give some kudos to Yamaha!
My buddy blew his 2003 250hp HPDI over the weekend. Needless to say it is out of the warranty stage. A quick visit to our dealer and he just got word that Yamaha is gonna replace the powerhead out of customer loyalty and good faith. That is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!....he was looking at a huge repair bill and now they step up like that. I cannot say enough good stuff about Yamaha. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/bows.gif

This has been happening. I was told by a mechanic Yamaha told them to not tell anyone there motor is out of warranty till Yamaha tells them to. It's all got to do with there customer approval rating.

You know, its not bashing, but there sure is a lot of Yamahas losing their powerheads these days. Just about everyone I know with a V6 Yami (including myself) has blown up their motor, and its not from abuse. It is a good thing that the company stands behind the product (but really wish the failures wouldn't happen in the first place). http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif

In my buddy's case you are talking about a 5 year old motor that has been run quite a bit. Well maintained but it has been used. I can hardly call that a bad failure against Yamaha. A lot of things can happen in 5 years to a motor that are not due to a manufacturer defect. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Re: Gotta give some kudos to Yamaha! (eal4500)
They may have had a bad run of motors or know of a quality defect in some of the motors that wasn't made public and they're just trying to make it right. Either way, good on 'em for standing by their product! If nothing else, it's a good way to send some positive press their direction when the economy is weak and competition for customers is tight! http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

because he probably did not get the oil pump update!
Re: Gotta give some kudos to Yamaha! (JUST-IN-TIME)
There were issues with the original few years of the 3.3L HPDI. I blew two powerheads on my 225. Talking to the Yammie Tech Yamaha has worked out all of the issues hence the reason for coming out with the Series 2 that is basically the same motor with all of the upgrades/fixes to the problems Yamaha found with the earlier motors. On both of my blow powerheads Yammie was awesome and took care of me. Now I run a series 2 and love it. Yammies customer service is top notch and will keep me coming back for many years.
