Went and ran my 98 vmax 150 today it smelled like it might be burning a little oil. Is there anyway to tell if I have a stuck ring other than a compression check. Also what do y'all recommend for decarbing? Thanks in advance for any advices.

Not to be a smart ass here but it is a 2 stroke and should be bruning oil.
how do you know or suspect that it is consuming oil....
Well I kinda expected that response after I read my post again lol. The only way I guess to explain it is, it's like being behind a car that burns oil real bad. It has that burnt smell rather than the usual two stroke smell. I do have boyseen reed valves in it. So Im hoping that its just a air mixture problem. Someone told me that the oil ring on the piston might be stuck.
2strokes don't have oil rings,so you can rule that out! What oil are you using??
Guys I apologize!! I was having a brain fart moment listening to someone tell me a line of shart. I'm going to start my trouble shooting by trying to find the carb adjustments for the boyseen reeds. Then go run it and check my plugs to see how the mixture is looking. I currently run Yamalube in it.
Hopefully you did not get a bottle of 4-stroke Yamalube by mistake. :-(Quote:

Make sure you don't have to adjust your timing a few degrees for the Boyensens as well as the carb adjustments. Any adjustments need should have been included in the install instructions.Quote:
