Lower Unit ?

A friend has an 03 200 HO with a lightning gearcase. It has shelled out once and was replaced under warranty. A different mechanic told him he should switch to the Magnum gearcase, that the lightning will never hold up to that motor. Lightning has 1:87 to 1 and the magnum 1:5 to 1. He said he would have to go up in pitch to make up for the gear ratio difference. (24 Raker to a 26 or 27) Any thoughts on this ? Anyone experienced this problem ? They did resolve it. There were a few issues around '03. The newer cases/gears are rock solid. If it is an '05 or newer BRP case that they replaced it with (should have been if it was warranty work), don't worry about it. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
