Vmax wont start

went to the lake today to do a little fishing, motor wouldn't start but we trolled around the ramp area and landed some good hybrids. Well, like I said the motor would not start. It is a 99 150 Yammy carbed motor. It is always hard to start anyways but it just would not fire all the way. I kept cranking it and still nothing, I gave it a little throttle and electric and manuel choke but still nothing. I made sure it was getting gas and it was. One thing that I did see is that alot of black crap came out of the exhaust. any ideas one where to start to diagnose the problem would be apprecitated. All the black crap gives me worries. I probably cranked on it for five minutes in total and there was so much crap coming out, is that normal?

Did you check the Kill Switch?

Make sure the red lanyard is connected.

WOW!. I have seen the same thing. About 2-3 times per year mine gets really flooded. It seems to happen quick. If it does not start on the third or fourth crank it floods. I have noticed in my driveway way it "pukes" black stuff out of the prop when its really flooded. It appears to be about a 50-50 mix of burned oil and gas. I cannot explain it. I have an 2005 150 Vmax and cannot say one thing bad about it except a few times per year it floods. Luckily, the worst times have been while in the drive on the hose.

I would love to hear from others on what causes this. It does not concern me because my engine runs to well to have a problem. I personally think it's the nature of a carb'd outboard.
