Motor won't start w/key, but will start manually...Any ideas?
My motor will not start when turning the key. I just hear a click when doing so. I am able to get it to start manually by putting the pull rope on it. I have a 2000 115hp Yamaha 2 stroke. We were in the water yesterday and everything worked fine throughout the day until at the very end. Any ideas of what could be wrong? I am guessing it is something electrical.

Bad cell in the batt, Batt needs charged, loose or corroded connections..
If you buy a new batt, Get the most "RC" and "MCA" you can fit in your boat. Even if you have to buy a new battery tray. You need atleast a group 27... I bet you have a group 24.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sick.gif

does your power trim work good and strong? if so its not your battery , its probably your solenoid are your starter. check for 12volts with key in start position at brown wire on solenoid and at starter.chances are if you hear it clicking your battery is low, your starter is bad, are the solenoid isn't jumping across.you can unplug the brown wire from solenoid and touch it to 12v to see if it jumps the starter off http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Thanks for the info. I had my battery tested and it was bad, so I replaced it with a stronger battery. This did not fix the problem, so the auto parts store looked at my starter to check the connection and noticed that the cable to my starter had been cut. So I fixed the cable and the motor works perfect.
I am not sure if it was related, but the motor cranked on the first try where as before it would take 8-10 turns.
