Re: hard starting hpdi. (MIKER2702)
I have a 3.1 250ox66 and having similar problem. I rebuilt my fuel pumps (which was an idea from another yamaha buddy here on bbc) and solved my problem. hope this helps.
Re: hard starting hpdi. (nhharris78)
i have no leaks but they still could be bad?
Re: hard starting hpdi. (MIKER2702)
i would check the fuel pumps also, mine did the same thing i replaced the fuel pumps and all is good
Re: hard starting hpdi. (j250trxr)
can you buy a rebuild kit or all new pumps??
obviously the kit is available my local dealer
is of no value sadly. nice new building boats everywhere
but service lacking.
Re: hard starting hpdi. (MIKER2702)
As with most modern EFI systems, the fuel pumps only cycle for a brief moment during starting. If the necessary pressure isn't obtained during this momentary period, then the required amount of fuel isn't injected into the cylinders.
Re: hard starting hpdi. (MIKER2702)
Mike can you pump up the primer ball firm with the motor off? If not you probably have a bad mechanical primary (low pressure) fuel pump (there's two there on the port side of the motor...). There's also a shrader valve there off the primary electric fuel pump (VST) that you can take a reading off of and it should be about 35 psi with the key ON. Then there's the mechanical high pressure pump up there on the top rear of the powerhead that's driven by the belt. What color is the primary fuel filter there under the hood? (The first one under the hood...) If it's brown change it, it should be yellow and unrestrictive. The TPS should be set to .62v at the normal idle screw setting. The .48-.52v readings are for when the idle screw is totally backed off. I find the .62v at normal idle screw settings to be right on ( and not more than 5.0v at WOT...). Do you have a service manual for the motor?

Re: hard starting hpdi. (Hamfisted)
the primary filter is a little brown. you can pump the primerball firm with
the motor off it will not stay firm?. i will reset the tps sensor to .62 the tps really has no
affect on the hardstarting. i will test the fuel pressure no i dont
have a manual i need to go ahead and get one obviously.
thanks hamfisted. i guess i need to order some pumps.
Re: hard starting hpdi. (MIKER2702)
