1988 Johnson V4 115 VRO - opinions?
I've got a chance to buy a 1988 Johnson V4 115 VRO for $500. Should replace nicely the '85 70hp 3 cylinder Johnson that's on my boat now. Are there any major problems known for this model? Any bugs or other things I should look for or watch for? Is this a decent deal for the price? Thanks in advance... http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Not really, if you choose to either upgrade the vro to OMS or disconnect and pre-mix at 50:1 ratio. Happy motor swapping. I would de-carb it and of course run a compression test on the motor before I laid out 500 clams. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

I've got an 85 115 and I love it. With the new prop I am running close to 60 with mine.

Thanks for the input, Champ, but I've got a dumb noob question: what do you mean by de-carb?

CM is referring to the BRP Engine Tuner that can be purchased at any BRP dealer......follow the instructions on the can. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
