Convert 25HP yamaha to a Jet (new lower unit needed)?
I somoked the lower unit on my 25 HP Yamaha model (25MSHW) and was wondering if it is possible to get a Jet lower unit for it instead of a prop lower unt? Also, If anyone has either a prop or Jet lower unit for sale, please let me know.
Thanks,

You'd end up with about a 17.5 hp with a pump. They knock off about 30%. Depending on the size of boat you might want to go with a bigger motor, then the jet.

Thanks guys. Most of lakes we use the boat on are no wake so we shouldn't have a problem. The skinney water advantage would be priceless. Would anyone know the part number of the Jet lower unit I need. The motor is used on 15 ft flat bottom john boat.

I used to run a jet on a merc 200 when I lived in Oregon. I don't even know if they make one for a 25hp motor. You lose quite a bit of hp and the pump will suck stuff into it if you get too shallow. With a big motor you can get on plane and run in about 6 inches of water but that is at full speed. It might be a lot cheaper just to use aluminum props and keep a spare on board.

I can help you out with your jet purchase, but you'll also have to raise your transom about 5" or so. The jet shoe needs to be installed where ti is level with the obttom of the boat. Also, what type of boat? What type of bottom? It won't work well with any type of built in setback, or a deep V.
