Max RPM's for a 2004 150 Vmax (Carbed)
I have a 2004 Stratos 285 Pro XL rigged with a 150 Vmax. I'm curious as to what the max rpm's I should be turning are. The book says 5500 then a year or two later I thought I heard Yamaha raised that to 6000. What should I be targeting? I can't afford to blow it up!

same motor on my sx190 and turning 5600 to 5800 depending on air temp. I beleave my book says 5500 for that year. Have had it in the shop for service and they said it would be fine what I'm running it at. Hope this helps http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Yamaha has not changed anything to the motor to raise the rpms. They just changed their outlook on what the motor will take and still last a very long time. I would try and prop it to 5800-5900 for your best overall performance.

mine is propped at 5900. will turn up to 6100 in winter depending on load

Have the same motor on my boat and in the summer, i turn it around 5500-5700 and when cooler temps get here, it's getting 5800. Haven't had problems with mine. All numbers are stock.

I have a 2005, turning 5600 in summer and 5800 in winter. No problems yet.

I have a '05 and I feel safe as long as I am under 6k, heck the rev limiter doesnt even kick in until 6250. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif At least thats what I have been told, I've ran a couple of different props that put me up close to 6200 and never hit a limiter. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
