04 225 HO stalling when shifting
Motor will often stall going from neutral to reverse or forward (my memory on the forward shift is not so good..), mostly first thing after launch. Idle speed is around 6-800 rpm. Other than runs great. Is this an interrupter problem ? Is it something that needs to be fixed before running it again, or can I drop it off at the shop after visiting the lake this weekend ? Or better ye, can I fix it myself ? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif Andy
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (acatli)
same thing happened to me and it ended up being the plugs.
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (ranger01)
you just changed plug then,,,and all worked out?
Samething happens to me too.
Do you know exactly what kind of plugs you use on this motor?
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (acatli)
My motor also just had its 100 hr check including new plugs and the injector recall. Does this problem go away with time on the new plugs ?
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (acatli)
Mine was the TPS (throttle position sensor) The voltage was not stable on the tps. Thats after replacing the shift interrupter.
Mine was really bad! I had to really be careful coming into the dock! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif

I hear you Shane - exactly the circumstance when the problem started for me ! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif Andy
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (acatli)
My 03 225HO did this exactly as you described and after a rod decided to make a exhaust port out the side of the block, my new powerhead does the same thing. Plugs makes no difference in my experiance. Just got use to restarting motor after every shift until it warms to operating temperature. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (dalehollownut)
my problem was fixed by just changing the plugs (under warranty)
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (acatli)
Posted the same question on the BFHP - Rodney Tidwell replied to the effect that there is now a BRP software update to cure this issue. If my local dealer has the update and it fixes the problem I'll let y'all know.
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (acatli)
Mine had the same problem but it happens less and less as time goes on. If it does, it's usually when I'm loading it on the trailer at the end of the day, it stalls as I put it in reverse. Had it happen the first time I was out in high winds and waves, was headed for the trailer in a cross wind and current (both in the same direction) aiming for the trailer next to me http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif and as I went for reverse it stalled and it went up on crooked and hit the winchstand at an angle. The steel on the edge of the stand cut the rub rail darn near in half http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif That was my first ding http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
If you find out about an update I would like to know. Thanks

this is a common problem when the timing is off by about 2°. First, the timing pointer has to be calibrated to TDC, using a piston stop tool and the procedure in the service manual. Then a laptop or PDA with the diagnostic software is used to synchronize the EMM timing with the engine timing.
The updated software MAP for the engine has been around for a while now, but is is only for a certain range of motors. Check with your dealer to see if the new software is for your engine.
Of course, this is assuming that the plugs are gapped and indexed correctly, the motor is running at the correct temperature, the exhaust sensor is not plugged up, and the adjustments and state of tune on the motor are correct.

Lotta ifs there Brother!!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
It seems like mine does it intermittingly, on the coldest day it willrun flawless then on another day may be warmer or cold it will die everytime till it warms up a little. May have to get to Nashville soon.

HUMMMM, I charged my start batt before going to the lake Sunday and no issues.........is this something to look at when they have sat like 3 weeks?
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (Bassmeister)
Might want to have the cranking battery checked Mike.
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (RUSTY63)
RUSTY,,,
if mine stalls when I try to shift the gear fast and bring to a dealer around me,,,
is it covered by warranty for a diagnosis and maybe repair (if the reason's other than spark plugs)??
Re: 04 225 HO stalling when shifting (RUSTY63)
Rusty, it's a brand new 1000 cca battery, after 3-4 weeks I just thought I would top it off before I went out.
