A while back I seen a pic of someones Lower Unit that they had sanded down to just the bare metal. I think it was a evinrude. Anyone have that pic or any info about the feelow that did it? I plan on sanding mine down soon and just leaving it bare, like the mercs.
I wouldn't....It takes A LOT of work to get it to look nice, and twice as much work to keep it looking nice...You'd be better off to sand it, prime it, and re-paint it a silver color. Mercury Torquemaster lower units are painted an aluminum color, it should be available at your local Merc dealer in a spray can. But bare aluminum changes color very quickly, corrodes very easily, and in general without a lot of upkeep it will look pretty bad real quick. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif
type in a search for "lower unit paint" in the titles and use the evin/john to look in . it should come up.
