Thermostat location

1986 Johnson 110 horse V-4. Model number is J110TLCDF. I need to replace the thermostats and poppit valves in this engine. The only manual I have for this motor is a Clymer's. Can someone tell me if this engine is a "cross flow" or "loop charged"?? The manual says the thermostats for one engine are on the cylinder heads and for the other, they're on the exhaust housing. There is a small rectangular plate on the outside of my exhaust housing, (about 4" X 2"), would the thermostat be behind that plate? Where would the poppit valves be?? Any help would be appreciated.

Kenny, your motor is a Cross Flow, the thermostats are difficult to get to on that motor, the best way to change them is to lift the power head off the midsection.

The best way to see the housing that holds the thermostats is, with the cowling off, look at the back of the motor, the two hoses from the bottom of the heads go into the thermostat housing.
