Helped a friend take his LU off a 300promax. He said he was running and it just stopped, wont shift. Dropped the LU and the shaft will turn but wont engage in Rev or Forward. Drained the Gear lube, it looked good with no water or metal peices in it. Its like the shift linkage is jammed inside the LU?? Any ideas
SOME of the possibilities would be:
-Sheered driveshaft (below water pump)
-Pinion Gear Failure
-Clutch dog
-Shift Spool
-Shift Bellcrank
Complete disassembly (utilizing the APPROPRIATE special tools) is in order.
I do not normally recommend gearcase repairs as a DIY project... there are more special tools required for the gearcase than for any other part of the engine. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
