According to the FAQ section and the Owners Manual, I should be using Premium Plus oil. Since the motor was new it has had nothing but DFI oil in it. I finally ran out and getting ready to buy more and wanted to see if I should change or stick with the DFI oil. My motor is an 2007 300xs serial number 1E002496.
I agree that I have some confusion on this too. While the literature definately says that Premium Plus is the recommended oil for your motor it also states that DFI oil is a superior product. Both good oils, probably not much difference in how they perform. It would be nice to know their reasoning.
If you idle a lot then use the DFI. I use the PP but I always blow mine out before putting it on the trailer.

RACE engines (such as your 300XS) carry a recommendation for PREMIUM PLUS oil (while all standard production and ProXS engines carry a recommendation for Optimax/DFI).

Thanks Don. I have read the Commonly Asked Questions several times. I understand that Mercury recommends the Premium Plus oil, but isn't the DFI a better oil since it has addative for carbon buid up?
I belive the DFI is full synthetic and PP is a synthetic blend. I fish with a guy that has a 03 225 opti with 780hrs and has used nothing but walmart oil since day one. Also has had not one engine proplem of any kind. It kinda makes me think why do I spend all the money I spend on merc PP oil.

BOTH the Premium Plus and the Optimax/DFI oils contain additives specifically designed to address carbon.
However.... the additive packages in these two oils are specifically designed to address target OPERATIONAL RPM ranges, for instance:
Optimax/DFI oil is targeted toward Optimax engines that would be likely to spend more time at LOWER RPM's, such as idling, warmup, graphing structure, and WOT running.
Premium Plus oil is targeted toward engines with a Higher-RPM Powerband, that primarily run WOT, with very little LOW RPM runtime (specifically targeted toward traditional 2-stroke Carb/EFI engines, <u>and the RACING Series Optimax engines</u>). http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
OK I have struggled with this issue for some time and appreciate the explanation.
Another question, Can premium plus and DFI be mixed in the reservior?
As instructed by the dealer, I have been running Premium Plus in my motor since day one but now understand DFI is the recommended and better choice. Would like to convert to DFI but want to know if there are any issues mixing the two. Thanks in advance

Yes you can mix the the two.
Mercury/Quicksilver Premium Plus and Mercury/Quicksilver Optimax/DFI oils are completely compatible with each other.
