Kinda sounds like your battery doesn't meet requirements for the motor. What battery do you have and what is it's specs?

+1... Have your battery LOAD TESTED to confirm it's ACTUAL capacity (ignore what's printed on the sticker.... the sticker means essentially nothing).
Make sure battery connections are CLEAN, ENGINE CABLE installed FIRST, remaining lugs "largest to smallest". Finish off the connection with a STAINLESS LOCKNUT (do NOT use wing nuts).

The battery is a sears platinum 31 just purchased in Jan. I took it to sears to have it tested and it tested good. I will double check connections. Thanks for replying.

My problem was very similiar with same battery 18 months old and it was the battery. Check/clean all connections including on engine and if that dont fix it I'd bet the battery is bad.
