Cowl mounted engine flush

What is the circumstance and suggestion to flush the motor using the built in flushing system?
I run on freshwater lakes only.

ok a backflush, again, when should it be used?

Anytime you think you might have gottin sand in the cooling sys. or anything else. It just pushes water back the oppisite direction and you can have the motor running while back flushing

IMHO.... this fitting is useful ONLY when there is a concern that the system is plugged or laden with debris.

I don't really like the idea of pushing debris and water BACKWARDS through the water pump....

This is why I inquired about this.. I have not used this (feature) for the very reason you mentioned. Seems like it can cause trouble.

I was told it was to flush it out after saltwater use, that anything else would cause more problems than it would fix
