I have an optimax and as you know they are black. My boat is spotless but how do I clean the scale to make my motor look pretty again? Mainly around the power trim/tilt it is real dirty and can't really scrub it.

Mix vinegar and water. It will remove the scum.

I use a product called scum off first. Then I give the lower unit about 4 coats of BTS over 4 days ( 1 coat per day).
This will protect the unit and all u need to do then is wipe off with a wet rag. Do the treatment about twice a year and u have the battle won. Each time u come off the water, just wipe it clean.

What is "BTS"?
Bow To Stern, great boat polish to use on your entire boat. Been using for over 4 years and best thing for a boat in my opinion.

Well the Vinegar and water worked very good on my outboard itself. Just need to finish it up and wax the outboard.
How do you clean the area around the trim motors. I had to rub quite a bit to get it off the outboard but I do not know an easy way to get around the trim pumps.
Raise the engine.... and use an old toothbrush. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
I used CLR yesterday for quick results.

Just spray it on full strength? Did you have to scrub anything?
