Re: Mercmonitor/HDS 7 (kbm)
In the "kit" (box the MercMonitor came in) should have been the following components related to the NMEA-2000 gateway connection:
-NMEA-2000 Cable (it's part of the MercMonitor's harness)
-A NMEA-2000 "Tee"
-A 120 Ohm Terminating resistor
This is "usually" all that is necessary to "tee" into an existing NMEA-2000 backbone setup.
If you do not have a backbone (your unit is a Standalone, or networked via Ethernet)- you would need a simple NMEA-2000 cable to run from your HDS to the underside of the dash (you would then simply "tee" to this cable, with the provided terminating resistor).
Set the MercMonitor Gateway to "Transmit".... and also set it to "Use GPS Speed".
Then spend some time playing with the data on your HDS unit (which should see the MercMonitor as some form of "Mercury Device" or "Mercury Switch" on NMEA-2000). http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Keep in mind- NOT all data items are viewable (oil pressure, oil temp, or optional sensor that may not be installed on your Smartcraft System). You would, however, be able to view the critical ones (RPM's, Engine Temp, and Water Pressure). http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Re: Mercmonitor/HDS 7 (EuropeanAM)
Thanks Don,
I connected the NMEA tee to the NMEA cable that is part of the Mercmonitor harness, I also connected a NMEA cable to the tee and connected it to the back of my HDS7, on the other end of the tee I connected the 120 Ohm terminating resistor. The HDS is not recognizing the Mercmonitor. It isnt listed on the device list of the HDS.
I set the Mercmoniitor Gateway to transmit and to use GPS speed.
My HDS is a standalone. Not sure what I am misssing.
I sent you an email with some other gauge questions.
Thank You
Re: Mercmonitor/HDS 7 (kbm)
Just for giggles... try removing the terminating resistor from the tee.
Also, you may need to make sure that your HDS is set up to USE Nmea-2000.
On the MercMonitor's GATEWAY setup screen, ensure that it's set to NMEA-2000 protocol (and not J19.... protocol). http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
You should have an email response to your other questions.
